Dentist

For some reason my kids love going to the dentist. It is one of the most exciting things for them. I even use it as incentive for them to get things done, and brush their teeth really well. We just got home from the dentist. Ever since Tyler's first visit to the dentist at about age 2, he jabbers. He talks and talks the whole time. When he was really little he would only talk to the girls, then when the boy dentist came in, he'd be silent. Now he's willing to talk to anyone about anything. Today when they asked him what he wants to be when he grows up, he said, "a dad and a bishop." When they asked him what he would do to make money, he said, "my boss will pay me to be a bishop." We have to talk about that. Then he decided that maybe he would rather be a dentist. The nice hygienist explained that he could be both because dentist don't have to work on Sunday. Anna was pretty excited to be the only one to have a cavity. That means she gets to go back! Emma, while she loves going, is very sophisticated and proper about her comments. This was also Ryan's first visit to the dentist. He was pretty brave, but they only got about half his teeth cleaned before he sat up and said, "I'm all done." Can I do that too? When I get my teeth done, I usually have Anna and Tyler right there checking my teeth too. Today they were informing me where and how I should brush better. Ryan was climbing up and down on me the whole time. At least they weren't pressing buttons or getting into things, right? Every time we go we get comments about how good the kids are, and funny and well-behaved. I'm always glad to hear things like that, because I feel like they're good kids, too. I know they have their moments, but don't we all?

  1. Mmm, I love going to the dentist. As long as they are just cleaning. I don't like anything to do with a drill or shots. Hope Anna does okay when she "gets" to go back!

  2. I just had all my kids to the dentist last week, and I can't say it was quite that fun. They're good and cooperative, but not exactly eager to return.

  3. I remember one of the hygienists that we had when we were young, was so mean! It was like she would saw our gums to pieces with the floss! If you read this Justin, you'll remember who I am talking about! Anyway, maybe that is why deep down inside I dislike going to the dentist! That is so good that you don't have to drag your kids there! Hopefullly a mean hygienist won't ever taint their experience!
