Anna logic

This morning Anna was upset about something and threw her favorite stuffed dog across the room. Trying to calm her down, I decided to appeal to her sensitive side. I said, "Anna, look what you just did to poor little Lily!" Anna's answer, "Mom, she doesn't even have a spirit." How could I argue with that?

Here comes the storm!

It started raining here a while ago. I was so excited! You could practically see the dirt falling out of the air. I could almost feel my sinuses start to clear. Hopefully it will be enough to make it a lasting change. I'll even take a day or two, just so my kids can go outside and play.

P.S. Here it is, 6 hours later, and the fog is so thick we can't see the houses across the street. Apparently, the storm was not enough. Here's hoping for another one.

Nothing's coming to my mind.

I was sitting here trying to think of something to blog about, and nothing seemed worthy of sharing. So my mind started wandering to imaginary conversations people might have with me about why I haven't added a new blentry. The answer, "Nothing's coming to my mind." Which led me to think of Back to the Future. You know the part when Marty McFly is trying to get his dad to make a date with his mom and tells him to just relax and say whatever comes to his mind. After a pause George McFly, in his whiny little voice says, "Nothing's coming to my mind." That got me to thinking that maybe I'd like to watch a movie tonight. This is still not really something worthy of sharing that anyone will care about, but now you know what I do in my down time.

Christmas crafts to the rescue

Well, since only one of my six readers gave me an idea of how to calm the craziness, I had to think of my own ideas. I decided that some of the craft projects we got for Christmas should be done today. I told the kids that the toy room had to be cleaned and then we could do something fun. They got a sand art kit from Tyson and Ashley. We had a lot of fun doing that together. And the toy room has never been so clean so quick. Then they did another chore and we got to make a stuffed dog. Then I found out that today is National Popcorn Day, so we are going to eat some popcorn and watch a movie. This is how we spend our day off today. Happy Civil Rights Day!

Cabin Fever!

Yesterday, Sophie got up earlier than usual. I took her upstairs to change her and feed her and I turned on the weekend edition of the Today Show. They had ideas on how to keep boredom at bay on these cold winter days. I thought they were fine ideas, but nothing new to me. It must have been something I needed to pay attention to, because since then the kids have been crazy. They are so hyper, and come up with these games that always seem to end in injury. I feel like Mrs. Hannigan on Annie whan she bursts in on the girls and yells "Is this hppiness I hear?" The constant giggling seems to get the kids in trouble. The moral: Pay attention when someone tells you to have more structured activities for your kids. I'm already trying to plan how to occupy their time tomorrow. Any grand, easy ideas are welcome.

Success!

Well, in everything I've read, I've learned to involve others with my weight-loss goals. It's very hard for me, because I'm a relatively private person. But in the first week of my efforts, I have had success. Five pounds are gone. But now is the time when I need encouragement. I tend to think that since I've had success, I can loosen up a bit with my exercise and eating. So, I'm writing it down so I can face my weakness and continue having success. I actually love to exercise, but also find excuses to cut it out of my busy life. So, this week I'll make it a priority and continue until it's a normal part of the routine. Good luck to me!

I think I'm getting old.

A few weeks ago we had the missionaries to dinner. Everything was good, and when they left, I looked at Josh and said, "Well, they were good kids." Then I had to question when I got old enough to say that missionaries are "good kids." Aren't they my peers?
My mom has been struggling with allergies lately that affect her skin. She gets patches of dry, irritated skin that is itchy and painful. Apparently, the way allergies affect you can change as you get older. Well, my eyes are red, irritated, itchy, dry, and swollen. It's not every day, but often. If I wear make-up, I regret it the next day. I have to pick which days to wear make-up according to who I see and how I feel around them. So, if you see me without make-up, you'll know that I feel comfortable around you and that you won't judge me for looking like a wornout, tired mom with red, swollen eyes. It makes me feel old to have skin that is so fussy. It was just a few years ago that I picked which days to wear make-up solely on whether or not I wanted to. Hopefully I can figure out what it is that irritates it and get the allergy under control.
