Sophie Rae

Sophie had her six month check-up yesterday. She weighs 16 lbs, 6 oz. and is 27 in. long. That's 50 percentile in weight and 80 in height. She is still among our smallest for her age. She is a happy baby.

I love listening to my kids play. They come up with some great games. This morning, Emma is transforming her room into Hawaii for a party she's planning. She has given each of us an invitation, written on Aloha flower notepaper she got from Grandma Davis. She's coloring flowers for decorations to put up in her room. She's planning games to play and treats to eat. She told the other kids that going downstairs to Hawaii is easier than actually going to Hawaii.
Meanwhile, Tyler is telling everyone his plans for a company he's going to start called "Tytow Foods." (Tytow is what Anna called him when she was younger.) He's got some great recipes he will make available, like Salsa Salad and Everyday Buttons. By the way, Everyday Buttons is a food he's invented that is the healthiest food in the world. You'll have to ask him exactly what it is. They get along so well when they've got creative juices flowing. Ryan and Anna love being involved in all of Emma's and Tyler's plans.

You just have to laugh!

Okay, I know I've told a lot of people this story already, but it's just too good to pass up.
Last Friday night we went out to dinner to celebrate Josh's grandpa's birthday. His parents, grandparents, cousins and aunt and uncle were all there. It was such a big party that they put us at two separate tables. Anna had to go to the bathroom several times. Six, Josh informs me. Many people thought she was playing games. At one point, Grandma M. said, "Wow, Anna. You sure have had to go to the bathroom a lot." Anna said, "It's because I have diarrhea." Grandpa M. was a little embarrassed, so he facetiously said, "Say it a little louder, Anna." So she shouted, "I have diarrhea!" At the next table, Grandpa Davis laughed and said, "We didn't hear you, Annie." So she stood on her chair, turned around and shouted, "I SAID, I HAVE DIARRHEA!" We were laughing too hard through our red faces to explain that we don't need to share all of our bathroom habits, especially at the dinner table -- in a crowded restaurant -- with extended family. But, when a 4-year-old is given the invitation. . . Plus 4-year-olds (and a child like Anna) take things very literally.

Oh, but we're not done.

On Sunday, Anna was pretty hyper and clingy during church. She wouldn't leave my side while I was trying to lead the music in primary. It was okay for a while, but then she started getting into things and being naughty. Finally, someone was able to get her to go sit on a chair, and Anna did much better. When they went to class, I thought all was well. I was singing songs with the senior primary when I noticed Anna's class out in the hall. I assumed they were out to get drinks, since they were walking toward the drinking fountain. A few minutes later, as I was finishing "Follow the Prophet" with the group, I heard a little voice (no, scratch that. It's a big voice.) out in the hall shout/singing "Follow the prophet, he knows they way! YES, HE DOES!" We all laughed, and got ready for the closing prayer. As the prayer was being said, there is that voice again "FOLLOW THE PROPHET, FOLLOW THE PROPHET, FOLLOW THE PROPHET, HE KNOWS THE WAY! YES, HE DOES!" We try to teach her, we really do. Some day her enthusiasm and inhibition will be a blessing, right? In the meantime, we just keep laughing.
